Germanic Studies: Using the Libraries

A guide to finding books and articles in Germanic studies, and to using the UGA Libraries.

Borrow from USG Libraries: GIL Express

Use GIL Express to borrow books from other University System of Georgia Libraries!

GIL Express is a service you access within the Library catalog, GIL-Find

See: How to Find and Request Items at Other USG Libraries

Interlibrary Loan

You can borrow books and journal articles from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan, at no charge. You usually receive articles in electronic format.

Go to the Interlibrary Loan page and log into the ILLiad system, using your UGA MyID and password to set up your account and make requests.

Note: You do not have to tell Interlibrary Loan which libraries hold the item you want. The staff will check that for you.

You can pick up and return Interlibrary Loan materials at their office in the center hallway of the Main Library. After 5pm on weekdays, and on weekends, you can use the circulation desk.

My Library Account

Every student has an account within the library system, GIL-Find. You can log into your account to:

  • See what you have checked out
  • Renew items online (subject to certain restrictions)
  • See if items you have requested are waiting to be picked up

To get to "My Account":

1. Click on My Account at the top of the Libraries homepage, or click on Sign In at the top right of the screen in the GIL catalog.

2. Log in with your UGA MyID and password.
