Dissertations

You can get a copy of most dissertations from ProQuest/UMI for a fee. You'll need to search ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) -- formerly Dissertation Abstracts -- to get a record number to order it.
You can try to avoid a fee by making an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request. You can always go back to ProQuestUMI if you cannot get the dissertation.

Why would an ILL request for a dissertation be denied? Sometimes other libraries simply do not circulate their dissertations. In other cases, it may be that the lending institution has moved to electronic dissertations, and (like UGA) the author is able to designate access to the campus network.
