- Once you download EndNote from the Library website, look for a .dmg file (image left).
Depending on your browser and where your settings save files, the .dmg file icon could be in the bottom bar of your browser, or in a download section near the top. If your downloaded files go to your desktop, the .dmg file will display as a drive icon, but with a .dmg extension.
- Double-click the .dmg to let it run.
Once the program finishes, you'll have an Installation window. It should look similar to the second image on the left. The image indicates that you are downloading a "site license" version. You should NOT get a request for a user key. If you do, contact an EndNote trainer or technical support.
- Double-click on "Install EndNote X8.app"
You will get a warning that the file downloaded from the Internet, and a prompt asking if you want to open it. (third image on left)
- Click open (third image)
You will get a screen showing EndNote is licensed to the University of Georgia license.
- Click Install.
First time users can set up and name a new library.
- When asked whether to "Save as Package." click the box to take the option.
Saving as a Package keeps your .enl and .data files together, which helps prevent file errors.
