Embroidery kits

We loan four Embroidery kits for a period of 7-days:

Each kit contains:

  • sewing needle 
  • scissors
  • threader 
  • fabric (while supplies last)
  • five threaded bobbins of embroidery floss (various colors, while supplies last)

To embroider a graphics file onto the embroidery machine via a flash drive:

  • Open the file in InkScape
  • Change the size of the graphic to the appropriate dimensions (if need be)
  • Save As (to the flash drive): .PES file format 
  • Change the size of the 'canvas' in InkScape to the smallest dimension possible
  • Make the canvas size slightly larger than the graphic
  • Insert the flash drive into the embroidery machine and load the image
  • If error encountered in Inkscape when saving text as a .PES file format, navigate to Extensions > Ink/Stitch > Lettering and then save as .PES file

Access and Use of Textile equipment

Textile equipment is for educational, non-commercial purposes only. Textile equipment and materials are for prototyping and experimentation, not for mass production. The makerspace provides some thread and fabric scraps, but users will need to supply their own sewing materials.

All users agree to respect the health and safety of the University community and abide by all applicable state and federal laws, University policiesLibraries' policies, and Student Code of Conduct.

No weapons, parts for weapons, weapon accessories, or weapon replicas may be produced with Makerspace equipment.

The University System of Georgia abides by the copyright laws of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code), which governs creating reproductions of copyrighted materials. All users of Makerspace equipment must abide by copyright and trademark laws. 

Makerspace equipment may not be used to create or view obscene or inappropriate content including violent or gory content, sexually explicit content, content that promotes or condones intimidation or violence against individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender identity. 

Makerspace employees reserve the right to deny or cancel any circuitry project that does not comply with the above policies.
