Locating Reports and White Papers

A report is a data-driven document which relays research findings and analysis of complex issues outside of traditional academic publications.

A white paper is an authoritative and detailed report often, but not always, issued by businesses or government agencies.  They tend to be persuasive documents.  

Where to find reports and white papers:

  1. Government Websites: Many government agencies publish white papers on various topics. You can find white papers on policy issues, research, and more on their official websites.

  2. Research Institutes and Think Tanks: Organizations like the Brookings Institution, RAND Corporation, and others often publish white papers on their research findings.

  3. Professional Organizations: Websites of professional associations related to your field often have white papers available. For instance, the IEEE and ACM publish white papers on technology and engineering topics.

  4. Google Search: You can use Google to find white papers by including specific keywords and using quotes. For example, searching for "white paper" site:.gov will help you find white papers on government websites.

  5. Company Websites: Many companies publish white papers to showcase their expertise and research. Visiting the websites of leading companies in your industry can be fruitful
