Finding Book Reviews

Book reviews can be found in a wide variety of locations, in print and online.  To find the best source for your needs, consider:

  • Want to find reviews in leading journals and magazines?
    • Start with the general indexes listed below.
  • Looking for a scholarly/ academic review of a scholarly/academic book?
  • Want a review in a newspaper or other popular publication?
  • Do you need a review of an historical book from the time it was published?

General Indexes of Book Reviews

Multi-Search: A platform that allows you to search over 100 GALILEO databases at once. Results will be a mixture of full-text and citations to reviews as well as scholarly and popular publications. Use the post-search limit for Source Type: Reviews.

Book Review Digest, 1905-present (Main Reference 1st floor Z1219 .B724)
An index to reviews of current fiction and nonfiction in English. Gives complete publication information and a brief summary of the book followed by review citations and excerpts from some reviews. Includes estimate of the number of words in reviews to indicate length.

Book Review Index, 1964-present: An index to book reviews appearing in over 230 periodicals; entries are very short and include only citations to reviews.
