Historic North Campus -- 45 minutes
Ever since natural philosopher Josiah Meigs arrived from Yale to take charge of UGA in 1801 - bringing a list of science titles he felt were vital for the university library - the sciences and libraries have been intertwined in Athens. Join Steven Brown, University Archivist Emeritus (and former science librarian), in a 45 minute tour of the North Campus as we discuss the joint evolution of the university, the libraries, and the science programs while enjoying the historic architecture (and the shade) of the original campus.
State Botanical Garden -- 90 minutes
A Walk on the Wild Side -- in the Shade Garden in consideration of the heat
A tour for both flora and fauna lovers. From birds and bees to Bluebells and Bloodroot, this walk through the Shade and Native Flora Gardens is different each time. This tour is a great for birders, as it focuses on one of the gardens that made us an "Important Bird Area" according to the Georgia Audubon Society.
Science Learning Center -- 45 minutes
The Science Learning Center, scheduled to open for Fall 2016 classes, is a dynamic new instructional space for STEM education on UGA's campus. Two tiered 280-seat lecture halls, two 72-seat SCALE-UP classrooms, and 33 technology-diverse teaching labs promote active learning environments in instruction. This multi-collaborative facility will house staff from Office of the Vice President for Instruction, Center for Teaching & Learning, Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, Franklin College Office of Information Technology, and Odum School of Ecology.
