Research Assistance: A Quick Reference

This guide is designed to provide you with a quick reference to essential informationthat will support you in your role, including answers to common questions and links to additional resources.

Our team of dedicated librarians is always here to help. If you ever find yourself unsure or needing further assistance, we encourage you to utilize our research librarians' expertise by creating a ticket on the patron's behalf. Make sure to include their email address so the librarian can follow up.

The UGA Libraries homepage lists four main search engines with different uses.

• Multi-Search: Searches about 130 GALILEO databases for journal articles, books and other resources.
• Books & More: Searches UGA's GIL-Find catalog for books and online journals.
  • Tip: Catalog searches can't bring up individual journal articles, just journal titles.
• Journals by Title: Check for full-text online or print availability of scholarly journals, newspapers, and other periodicals.
• Google Scholar: Searches for scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources, including journal articles, conference proceedings, books, theses, preprints, and more.

The UGA Libraries offer access to citation help and software. 

• Our tip sheets contain helpful tips and examples of how to cite resources in various styles.
• We offer access to the citation management software tools Endnote and RefWorks, which are ideal for creating bibliographies and to organize references over time.
