Searching SocINDEX

Once in SocINDEX, click on Advanced Search.

In the Advanced Search, you will find 3 search boxes.  This is where you will type your search terms.  Next to the search boxes are optional search fields, where you can decide where to search your term.  These include all text, author, title, subject terms, or many other fields.  Depending on the type of search you are conducting will determine if you need to use any of these fields.

Between the search boxes are dropdown menus for Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT), which determine how your search terms will be combined.

Further down you will find other Search Options to help narrow your results.  These include limiters such as the date of publication, which limits the date range of your results, scholarly (peer reviewed) journals, and the full text of an article.

Let's search "customer service" AND "(race OR ethnicity)" and select the limiter "scholarly (peer reviewed) journals."

You can see the number of results retrieved listed just below the search bars.  On the left-hand side of the page, you will find the limiters you chose along with the option to choose more limiters to further narrow the results.

Important information regarding each result, including the source type, citation, and subject terms can be found in each results listing.

Click on the article title for the complete detailed record.

The detailed record will provide you with additional information about each result, including an abstract.  On the left-hand side of the page, you will be offered options to either download the PDF of the article or the "Find it @ UGA" button.  On the right-hand side of the page, you will find tools such as printing, emailing, or saving the article, and exporting the citation to EndNote, RefWorks, or Zotero.
