Dan Fitzpatick’s PREPARE framework is designed to help users think about how to best write prompts for generative AI tools like Gemini, Copilot, and ChatGPT.
- Prompt: Start with a clear question. Provide a stage for what follows.
- Write a summary about the current debates/issues or controversial topics with your topic.
- Role: Give the AI a role and outline the context.
- You’re an political science expert analyzing the trends/issues.
- Explicit: Be specific in your question to avoid misunderstandings.
- In the summary, mention how AI can contribute to personalized learning.
- Parameters: Set clear frameworks such as tone of voice and the format of the output.
- Use an informative tone and keep the summary under 300 words.
- Ask: Ask the AI to ask you clarification questions before it continues.
- Ask me some clarification questions first, and then answer.
- Rate: Ask the AI to rate its own output.
- Give the summary a rating based on 0-10 points, and indicate what could be improved.
- Emotion: Add an emotional stimulus. This appears to be able to increase quality.
- Breathe in, and breathe out. Try to really do your best. It’s important to me.
- You can also ask the AI to make thinking steps explicit.
- Take this task one step at a time, and explain your thinking steps.
