What is online privacy? Why should you be concerned about your data being compromised? Is this something you need to worry about if you're not doing anything wrong?
In short, privacy is the concept that people have the right to be left alone, to not be watched, and to be forgotten. Our rights to free speech, free information, free movement, bodily autonomy, marriage equality, and many others rely on the precedent of privacy. In the digital age, every website visit, phone call, purchase, and social interaction has the capacity to be tracked by the digital infrastructure than runs our lives. These systems are designed to make opting out of this data collections intentionally difficult, but this guide provides some practical tips for limiting their surveillance of your life.
