Formats

You will be assigned a citation style by your instructor. Citation styles explain how to give credit to your sources and allow others to find them, as well as give guidelines for formatting your paper.

APA -- Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition

Chicago -- Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition

MLA -- MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 7th edition

Citation Management

Manage citations and access to the full text

  • Database individual accounts: Most databases provide individual online accounts. For example, if you mainly use EBSCO databases, such as Academic Search Complete and PsycINFO, you can sign up for an individual account and save articles and citations to your account folder.

Manage citations, access the full text, AND insert formated citations into your word processing program

  • RefWorks: A web-based system (log in online), good for collaborative work
  • EndNote: A client-based system (downloadable program) with a web suite (EndNote Web) that is ideal for back-up.

These two systems are fully supported by UGA Libraries. Get them free through UGA Libraries at the links above. You can get one-on-one assistance and training from a UGA Librarian. There is also a toll free technical support number for each system.

You can search for other citation management programs available online, but they will not be officially supported by UGA Libraries. Some, such as Mendeley, have both free versions and paid subscription versions with extra features.
