Local Film Fests

AthFest - events include a FilmFest. Check their main page each year.

Athens Jewish Film Festival - purpose is to present quality Jewish films in Athens, Georgia and facilitate cultural discussion.

Animal Voices Film Festival - sponsored by Speak Out for Species, and other local groups.

EcoFocus Film Festival - A celebration of environmental films in Athens, Georgia. They took a break in 2015, but you can get on their mailing list for info on when the festival may resume.


UGA Filmmaking Union

  • Website is not current, but the group meets regularly. Ask for information about the group in the Grady School.
  • Participates in FilmAthens (see below), Campus MovieFest student film festival, and Cinematic Showdown.

UNIV 1120

  • 1-credit, Pass/Fail course -- The course project is to create a short documentary film of about 3 minutes, and to upload to your own website
  • Workshop format class sessions allow students to learn about iMovie '11, Final Cut, Garage Band, Blogger, and WordPress.
  • Students in the class are encouraged to network and assist each other with filming

  • Film Athens is a non-profit organization that serves and educates the film community and fosters the growth of the film industry in Northeast Georgia.
  • Provides classes and workshops at the FilmLab. Most classes are either free, or below market cost.
  • Involved with the Sprockets International Music Video Festival
  • Email to set up a time to tour the lab, and inquire about resources.
