COVID-19: Library Resources and Services

Are the libraries open?

All library buildings are currently closed.

Can I still get books from the library?

No, we have suspended book pickup and scanning. However, you can still access ebooks and other online resources, as well as request articles and book chapters through Interlibrary Loan.

My book is due. How do I return books?

All due dates have been extended through July 1. Fines are not being enforced and no accounts are being blocked. To request that fines be waived, please contact We ask that you not return books during the statewide shelter-in place order currently in effect.

Can I recall books? What if my book was recalled?

We have stopped the recall service. If your book was recalled before we suspended the recall services, your book is technically overdue. Fines are not being enforced and no accounts are being blocked. To request that fines be waived, please contact

Can I still request items through Interlibrary Loan?

We are still accepting ILL requests for articles and book chapters from UGA users.

Can I access online library resources from off-campus?

Yes, you can still access ebooks and other online resources like databases and ejournals from off-campus. Faculty can also visit our Resources for Faculty Teaching Online guide for options.

Can I use VPN to access library resources from off-campus?

VPN does not ensure access to library resources. While VPN connects to the campus network, most of our e-resources are hosted off-campus and require proxy authentication. In fact, VPN may interfere with EZProzy access for some databases and licensed content. Instead of VPN, use the library website and/or resources provided in our off-campus access guide to connect to this content remotely.

How can I ac
cess the Chronicle of Higher Education?
Access options for the Chronicle of Higher Education depend on the publication date:

How can I access SciFinder from off-campus?

First-time SciFinder users need to create a unique user ID/password using the VPN or UGA vLab. However, do not use the VPN to search SciFinder, as access may be blocked. Instead, use our proxied URL to get UGA's licensed access. Please contact Chemistry Librarian Ian Thomas for additional support.
