10:00a - 11:00a - Keynote speaker, Emily Pentzer, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Materials Engineering at Texas A&M, What I Wish I had Known and What I Wish My Students Knew for Graduate School. Graduate school is a different experience for everyone- from what motivates someone to pursue an advanced degree, to how they chose the program, to how they approach classes and research. Graduate school can be challenging- both professionally and personally, and at times can feel isolating or like the goals and metrics of success are ill-defined, at best.  This presentation will cover my path to a PhD in chemistry and professorship, my experiences as a mentor, and lessons learned on what worked, and what I wish I had known ahead of time.

3:30p - 5:00p - Workshop with Emily Pentzer. Professional and Research Goal Setting. When it comes to graduate school and your career, setting goals can help you identify what motivates you and what you want to do, and gives you an opportunity to be intentional about your career path. Goals can also give you an excuse to celebrate your progress - long before the diploma comes. This interactive workshop will help you identify what motivates you, what you want to accomplish in the year(s) to come, and how you can set yourself up for achieving these goals in a time-frame you identify. The goals will take into account graduate school and beyond.
