What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that people use to collect ideas for their different projects and interests. People create and share collections (called “boards”) of visual bookmarks (called “Pins”) that they use to do things like plan trips and projects, organize events or save articles and recipes.

Instead of simply bookmarking items, a visual presentation of an online object is saved to the site.  This makes browsing easier, as well as facilitates subject organization.

Finding a Board

Simply type "FLC Teaching" in the search box at the top of the screen to find our Board.  You can also use the search to do a subject search on virtually any topic.

Adding a Pinterest Button to your Browser

To make it easier to add Pins to your account, you can install the Pinterest "Pin It" button to your browser.  Once installed, all you have to do is click the button when you are on a webpage you want to pin to a board.

Pinterest and GALILEO

All of the EBSCO databases (including the MultiSearch) allow you to post items to Pinterest.  To do so, click on the "Bookmarks" icon on the right hand side of the page under "Tools" and choose Pinterest from the list.

Creating an Account

You create a Pinterest account with an email address.  You can also link your social media account to Pinterest and use that information to sign up.

How to Pin

Once you've created an account, there are many ways to add something to Pinterest.  Pins are organized by boards.  Think of Boards as folders that hold your pins based on type.  For example, I created an FLC Teaching Board for our group.  Once you've created a Board you can pin whatever you want.  

If you want to manually add a website or image from your computer, you will simply click on the red plus sign next to your name at the top of the page.

Once you upload the webpage, you choose an image to represent the page.

Using the Pinterest Button on Websites

A lot of websites have incorporated Pinterest buttons into their sites the same way Facebook and Twitter have been added.  If you see the Pinterest "P" then you can just click on that to add the item to your Board.

For example, if you're in Amazon, and you want to add a book to our board, you can simply click on the "P" on the screen and Pinterest will do the rest.
